For several reasons electronic devices should have low power consumption. It is important for the sustainable use of energy, allows a long operating time of battery powered devices and reduces the cost for cooling of high-performance systems. Thus, low power consumption can result in a product that is more successful in the market.
Students of electrical engineering shall have the opportunity to learn about power consumption of electronic devices in their study. They shall learn the technological causes of dissipation of electrical components and about approaches to reduce power dissipation. Such a course should include the practical use of low-power techniques. Therefore, in this project an evaluation-system is developed that allows the design of different digital circuits and compare them in regard to their power consumption.
